5K Race Day

Saturday morning was the day of my first 5K since sometime in my late 20s.  I have a girlfriend that is quite athletic and she keeps me on my toes.  There have been times when I’m on the verge of turning into a little diva but I am grateful that she has pushed me to beyond what I think I can do.

This was taken by my hubby as I neared the finish line.  I didn’t see him as I was keeping ‘my eye on the prize’ that was the finish line.  In my age group I came in 12th out of 13 people running.  I was happy I wasn’t last.  😉  It seem difficult at first but then at the last mile I seem to fall into a groove and kept going until the end.  My friend was also cheering me on.  She runs marathons and she of course finished about 10 minutes or so before I did (my time was 41:01).  She came in first for her age group.  I was so happy for her.

Abby came too.  The folks sponsoring the race (godaddy.com) gave Abby a bandana.  She could have been the official spokesdog.  She had lots of pictures of her taken that day and just people coming up to see who the cute doggie was.  Being that I live in the wild west, they had someone shoot a gun off to start the race.  Poor Abby didn’t know what to think of that and spent a great deal of time with her tail between her legs.  There were several races going on in addition to the one I did.

Here is my free t-shirt from the race and also the bib I wore with my number on it.  It was a great experience.  Running is definitely not one of my favorite things.  I’d rather do kick-boxing or Latin dance.  However, after that day I started thinking that maybe I could work on improving my time and developing more of an endurance.   Not to mention that my body seems to react so positively after running.  There is another race in a few weeks.  I’m in!

  1. Good on you!! 🙂 You did well – at least you were still running at the end – I’d be dragging my heels by that last mile!

  2. Dang! Good for you. You’d never catch me doing something like that… 🙂

Well done Jenn! 😀 and good luck for the next one 🙂

  4. Wow that is so impressive….you go girl!

  5. Poor Abby. If I would have been there I would’ve been trying to get some pics too. How could I resist?? She’s so cute!!

    Congrats on finishing!!

    • She was most likely the most photographed dog there. I’m sure she didn’t mind at all though. She has black freckles on her ears that make her simply irresistible to all humans.

      Thanks LB!

  6. A beautifully taken shot, and your husband is a lucky man, you’re such an athletic girl 🙂
Well done! A girl can dream, a girl can achieve! congratulations.

    • Thank you Zoom! I’m lucky too to have him. He came down and just stood around while I ran. I’m sure there were other things he’d rather be doing but he came anyways to cheer me on (the free food I’m sure didn’t hurt either 😉 ).

  7. Fantastic! That is wonderful that you worked on something and did it, something that you are not crazy about. Good perseverance. I love the picture of you getting near the finish line.

Abby is so cute in the bandana! She should certainly be the official spokesdog 😀 Too adorable.

You now have a t-shirt to wear when you run to remind you of your new goal, to be even faster. Good job. I am impressed.

    • Well thank you so much! It was a lot of fun and I felt a great sense of accomplishment afterwards.

She did look pretty cute if I do say so myself. My husband said he had a crowd of people around the entire time. Abby loved it.

I think I will be wearing the t-shirt when I run on the treadmill this week. We just a new gym open up right around the corner and its been great incentive to get moving with having it so close.
